A Perfect Murder: War of aggression
19/06/07 || Global Domination
This review was written by ex-staffer/cocksucker Stephen Fallen.
These mother fuckers are from QUEBEC (that’s in Canada, retard), so why the hell do they have a Confederate flag on their album cover? Put your damn Fleur-de-lis over a fucking maple leaf next time, fucko.
I know why they chose the art work they did. They’re desperately trying to jump on the “southern” bandwagon. I hate that sort of insincerity. Unlike Beyond the Sixth Seal, who at least offered up some slightly original music, A Perfect Murder are doing their best to sound just like Pantera. Fuck that shit, if I want to listen to Pantera, I’ll fucken listen to Pantera.
Oh dear, and observe vocalist Kevin Randal on “Enemy of Mine” and “Fortunate Son” trying out his best Layne Staley impression. It’s less Alice in Chains and more “I hope Kevin Randal OD’s and fucking dies.” And what the fuck is up with “Fortunate Son”? I love Pearl Jam (no, really), but after the spate of hideous PJ-alikes over the last 10 years I really don’t need another shitty fucking Pearl Jam rip-off song. Fuck you A Perfect Murder for making me remember Creed, Nickleback, Default, Seven Mary Three, Lifehouse…
Is this all a little too harsh? Maybe. Even though this album is a creative desert, it is a fairly skilled copy. The swamp lichen looks like swamp lichen! The snozberries taste like snozberries! And, as far as Pantera clones go, they do offer up a couple of good moments. “Sadist” is an okay tune and “War of Aggression” starts off very nicely. And that’s my one compliment for this album.
Actually, wait! I have one more: At least they’re better than Hellyeah.
3 out of 10.
Global Domination note: Forum bitch Methodical pointed out the following about this review, and he deserves some credit for it. Thanx for the input.
“Um, I normally don’t defend shitty bands like A Perfect Murder, and I won’t here, but ‘Fortunate Son’, for the love of Satan, is NOT a fucking Pearl Jam song. It’s a motherfucking Creedence Clearwater Revival song. This is the one problem I keep having with music reviews. It’s seems this new young metal crowd doesn’t understand, or know, the classic rock bands. I mean, it’s CCR. How do you go through life not hearing CCR? On another note, the reason they have the Confederate flag on the cover is because the singer is from Tennessee. Maybe a little more research will help. Other than that, it was a well written and funny review.”
And Stephen Fallen responds:
“Man, I’m glad my buddy e-mailed me about K’s addition to my review or I never would have noticed this BS.
First off, my good shit stain, I never said it was a PJ song, I said it was a rip-off of Pearl Jam’s sound. Reading comprehension is fun! I didn’t make the “Fortunate Son”/CCR connection, you’ve absolutely got me there, but in my defense the song sounds more like something off of PJ’s mediocre “Binural” than Creedence’s “Willy and the Poor Boys”.
To accuse me of not appreciating classic rock is fucking retarded though, since I’ve already covered Sabbath, Zeppelin, King Crimson and Rush for the Classics section, and have ones of Deep Purple and Iron Maiden on the way.
I do have to apologize for overlooking the new vocalist’s origins. Most of the literature on the band cites them as being from Canada, but buried in a 700 word bio on the band’s website it does say he’s from TN. Still, I feel comfortable claiming that the confederate flag/fluer-de-lis combo was done purely to garner some kind of idiotic “southern cred”.
And that’s it. Music this mediocre and uncreative doesn’t deserve any more of my time.”
