Aborted: Goremageddon (the saw and the carnage done)

29/05/08  ||  Global Domination

This review was written by ex-staffer/cocksmoker Bobby Peru.

Aborted has never been covered on this site apart from a spot in the Audio autopsy section some aeons ago. That is a bit strange to say the least because from what I gather they are pretty popular out there in the metal universe with an ever growing fan base. This album has a few years behind it, but I feel that coverage of this fucker is appropriate nonetheless since Aborted has a new album out this summer and if that one sounds anything similar to this one they may be up to something huge.

Aborted describes themselves as grindcore, then they off course rant about them being somewhat original in their salutations to the legacy of Carcass. Nothing new there! Can`t bands of today call themselves death metal or whatever and leave it at that, instead of trying to call themselves original which they fucking never are anyways? This album has all the elements of Carcass though with brutality and melodies in contrast to one another.

The singer is one talented fucker that clearly is capable of many different genres within the metal realm with some really deep growls and high-pitched screams that`s truly top notch. You can’t hear a word he`s singing but a glance into their lyrics and you understand why. Prepare yourself to be appalled or aroused, whatever yanks your a-hole:

“Numbed by the reek, prepare for surgery, internal horror revealed, with a blast from the asscheek. Rumbling restless as inflicts post-mortal vengeance, tell-tail dung marks across the operating table, eyes see shit, decorating the tools, hygienic practices scrapped by this foul odor”

Not quite as disgusting as Chris Barnes but pretty fucking close.

The songs are extremely well written with some fucking groovy riffs and complex structures and they are equally well performed. These guys sure know what the fuck they are doing when writing and performing riffs. Sadly the same can`t be said about the solos which almost are reminiscent to the ones that Ralph Santolla plays in Deicide which truly isn`t a good thing. It`s kind of nice though to first get: “a blast from the asscheek” followed by a beautiful serenade from some Belgian guitar bending Santolla-fan.

I have my concerns about the production too. I have always felt that metal should be played fucking loud and this one can`t be, without feeling like you have an edgy fucking penis, pointed right at your eardrum. I wouldn’t say it`s a bad production, the guitars are heavy enough and the vocals are in your face, just the way I like it, however I cant enjoy them at the volumes of my liking.

If you like death metal, grind core or anything similar to it you should lend these Belgian fuckers an ear. They certainly compose and perform their music with authority and conviction, write their lyrics with disgusting precision and Sven certainly know how to use his voice in accordance with both the music and the lyrics.

Make the production better with the next release; skip those gay solos and Aborted’s next release should be fucking great. This one`s extremely good, but I suspect that we can expect something even greater with this summer`s release, which off course has a totally different line-up than this one.

7,5 blasts from the asscheek out of 10.
