Gehenna: Adimiron black

18/01/08  ||  Global Domination

This review was written by ex-staffer/cocksmoker Desolator.

MySpace strikes again. When I was diligently viewing the friends section of Gorgoroth’s (Infernus-style) Myspace page, Gehenna Jameson was one band that caught my interest. Probably because I had no idea what Gehenna means (now I know, and Gehenna is the Jewish hell or purgatory). I must say, Gehenna doesn’t exactly suck any cock, but their music is vicious enough to puncture the listener’s scrotum sac. Very kinky indeed.

This is semi-old school, since it was made in 1998. Also old school because it has those tones.

“The Killing Kind” starts with a very spastic rhythm that appeals to me. What better way to start with an album than to incorporate a tune that could tear someone’s guts out and use them to build a hut? This song is the most chaotic, when it wants to be chaotic.

“The Deadlights” starts off with a ripper of riffs and then slows down like fuck for the bulk of the middle. Not to say that’s a bad thing. I kinda get old Bathory vibes from the slow parts, but sometimes they go on for a bit too long for my taste. They’re great to chill out to, but when I want something that’ll tear a new asshole into my face, I tend to rewind the song back to the start quite a lot. The more assholes torn in my face, the better.

“Seed Of Man’s Destruction” is the winning track of the album for me. It starts off with a punkish groove that is no less black. There’s a lot of punkish shit going on in most of the album, but the start of this track is the best example. I have a soft spot for punk, and it has a great chance to appeal to me. Well it appeals to me here, and it sports some very inviting grooves.

The only problem with the ‘henna is that the quantity of the best bits are not really enough. There are many good tunes but the best ones are a bit too sparse, and when you hear the best ones, those are the ones you want to hear the most. I guess that’s just my strange way of things and I’m sure everyone has a differing view of what are “the best tunes”. But this is my review, so… yeah.

But this is a good piece of Norsky black metal that could hurt some small children. I love this art.

7.5 Gehennocidal maniacs out of 10.
